Michelle Rodriguez : Oh , that ’s awesome .
Chris Pine : That ’s cool . That ’s rad . What does that signify ?
We just got our mathematical group together , and we ’re going to start out playing . I ’ve never act as it before , but this pic ’s gravel me into it .
Chris Pine : Oh , extremist . That ’s what I think is so nerveless about it . I keep telling people , I think hoi polloi have this idea that dungeon & Dragons is for Kid , which I think it is , and it ’s fantastic , it ’s imaginative , all that . But there was a while [ when ] there were hoi polloi who bang to fiddle Werewolf and whatever the hell that plot was called , but I was like , you just get a clump of adults over and have a couple drinks and act as this secret plan , and I assure you , you ’re go to have a good clock time .
Regé was telling me that you guys played and it feel like an improv class to him .
Chris Pine : I think that ’s what I base playing it . I ’m not a vast gamer , and I fail at play things like Zelda when I was a shaver . So I thought I was going to be misfortunate at this plot . But really , what this game is about is work . It ’s the same matter . What are the stake ? What ’s happening ? What ’s the context ? And then you just play make-believe and I bed it , I sleep with it .
You guy wire captured that all in the film , and it ’s just so much fun . Chris , your character really ground the team with the story . Can you talk about what motivates your eccentric and how you approach the correspondence of comedy and catastrophe with your character ?
Chris Pine : This is all really quotation due to John and Jonathan , and one of the big head I had go into the plastic film is quality . Tone is everything , and if you do n’t strike the right chord , there ’s a electric potential for it to escape . But I think they really had a line into exactly what I am interested in . The kind of plastic film I care to watch and make are earnest and devout films that do n’t feel jaded or cynical , and they ’re not make merriment of the world ; they ’re having playfulness with it , but they are n’t too coolheaded for schooltime , so to speak .
I ’m a puma , I come to set up , I just start throwing shit around , and it ’s not my task to tell apart me what ’s serious or not ; it ’s the director ’s job to say a little bit less of that , a small bit more of that . So I just put myself in the hands of the boys , and essentially , like any great striking or comedic thing , you encounter it for real . You dally the jokes ; you do n’t play at the jokes ; you play the luck and just allow the chips fall where they may .
Michelle , you both really catch the energy of your fictitious character being the bard and the barbarian . Did you do your own enquiry on those D&D characters or is that purely from the script ?
Michelle Rodriguez : It ’s all in the playscript , really . Just like Chris was saying , I think John and Jonathan did a really , really good line of just trying to say , " Hey , what would it be like if we catch the most different types of humans and put them in this cool adventure ? " And they really did a good job of labialise it off . It ’s really well balanced between humor and heartfelt , and you got a little turn of everything in there , and I just be suit . Worked out a lot , tried to get the body there because she ’s obviously more physical . He ’s the one with the words .
