In old issues , Taylor unwrap through flashback thatDick modernize a terrible fear of peak as a child after fall from the trapeze tackle . In issue # 116 , Taylor uses flashback again to show how young Dick eventually overcame this fear . The flashback picture a young Dick Grayson approached by a man who has taken over for the Flying Graysons , as Dick had beg his parent to stop performing after his capitulation . The man , while subject with his new occupation , expresses that he would rather be out of a line of work than neversee the Flying Graysons flyagain .
He then offers to instruct Dick to overcome his fearfulness of heights so that he and his parents can return to the air where they go . When Dick agrees , the acrobat introduce himself as Boston Brand . The flashback terminate here , but as many devotee know , Boston Brand would eventually fail and become theiconic Justice League Dark hero , Deadman . Although Brand was n’t Deadman at the time of his meeting with Dick , he is still technically the first hero Nightwing ever met . In a way , this encounter confirms that it was always Dick ’s lot to be connected to the hoagy community of interests and become a hero himself .
