The Professors of Hogwarts were an eclectic bunch .

While some of them were full - on iniquity and tried to murder or torture the educatee , like Dolores Umbridge or the Carrows , others were more virtuously ambiguous . In fact , most of them seem to trend on the " electroneutral " soil , focused only on their subjects or their students , never volitionally taking sides , until the berth called for it .

Below are the Dungeons & Dragons Alignments of some of the most democratic Professors who ’ve instruct at Hogwarts .

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley looking at a crystal ball in Harry Potter.

Quirinius Quirrel- Lawful Neutral

Professor Quirrell initially seemed the most clean-handed of the lot . He was soft - spoken , frightened of the students and the last person to get mix up with something nefarious . Yet , he turn out to have Voldemort hiding at the back of his head .

He was n’t evil per se . He ’d been to Albania and Voldemort found him and it did n’t take long to convince him to join the Dark side . And Quirrell was loyal to him till the very end , believing that Voldemort ’s view on power were correct .

Horace Slughorn- True Neutral

Horace Slughorn never liked take in sides .

When Dumbledore sent Harry to recruit him , he vehemently expressed his desire to not join the Order of the Phoenix . And although it was he who gave Voldemort the information he needed about Horcruxes , he never went forward to Dumbledore with that data .

He became the headland of Slytherin after Snape killed Dumbledore and became Headmaster and although he fought in the Battle of Hogwarts , he always prefer to keep a distance .

Gilderoy Lockhart- Chaotic Neutral

Gilderoy Lockhart deal only for himself . He did n’t mind break the established rules so as to get what he need . In fact , he built his reputation base on the defy deed of others , by performing Memory Charms on them and slip their credit rating .

He did n’t even care about save Ginny or killing the basilisk that roamed Hogwarts . All he cared about was his own life , and he tried to use whatever chance there was to promote his own life history .

Dolores Umbridge- Lawful Evil

Dolores Umbridge was one the good portrayal of an " evil " character we ’d look in a while .

Although she work mostly in accordance of rights with the Ministry , she was someone who savor doing evil things . Such as the detention in which she made Harry indite " I must not state lies " using his own blood on his skin , despite being mindful of the fact that he was telling the truth .

And sometimes , she even went behind the Ministry ’s back , such as the clock time she send Dementors to get Harry Potter over the summertime .

Remus Lupin- Neutral Good

We knew Remus Lupin was going to be one of the " good " guys the minute we first receive him on the train , and he saved Harry from a Dementor flack . He was one of the few who actually cared about his students , help them get over their fears and learn proper defenses against dark magical creatures .

And he was also unforced to take the constabulary into his own hands when he found out that it was Peter and not Sirius who had betray the Potters .

Filius Flitwick- Lawful Neutral

We do n’t really see much of Flitwick in the books . From what we know , he ’s flyspeck , lets the student talk in class and is n’t harsh on them when they mess up . But we do n’t seem him enthusiastically take part in thing that do not touch on him directly .

He ’s hardly there at the clip of major conflicts , except in the last book , where he conjoin most of the other Professors to protect Hogwarts from Voldemort .

Pomona Sprout- Lawful Neutral

Pomona Sprout is similar to Flitwick too , in a room . Despite being Hogwarts Professors and Heads of Houses , we do not see them join the Order of Phoenix . They do n’t seem too concerned in taking part in schoolhouse politics , or in the conflicts that plagued the wizarding world , without being expressly asked to do so .

Sprout , for instance , facilitate with the mandrakes that get the counterpoison to help cure the Petrified student , but other than that she mostly keeps to herself with her Herbology interests .

Minerva McGonagall-  Neutral Good

Minerva McGonagall always had a strong orientation for law and order . She was rigid but comely , recoup level from her own House at times , if the student broke the rule . And although she wanted Gryffindor to win the House Cup , she never had that outward preconception for educatee that Snape did .

But when push issue forth to shove , she was unforced to take risks .

She refuse Umbridge in whatever elbow room she could and when the Weasley twins and Peeves wrecked the school with their jest - store inventions , she even told Peeves the right fashion to unscrew a pendant .

Severus Snape- True Neutral

Snape ’s alignment is mighty unmanageable to pinpoint .

To bug out off , he joined the Death Eaters , despite Lily not require him to , and despite knowing that they were evil . And he was pretty much okay with all the despicable thing they did , ' til Lily ’s life was at stake and she died .

Guilt at her death made him join Dumbledore , and until the very end , he stay fast to him . He did not particularly handle for the well - being of his students and swagger them pretty often . It was his bond to Lily and subsequently to Dumbledore that drove him , rather than a preference for good or immorality .

Professor Quirrell in Harry Potter

Albus Dumbledore- Chaotic Good

Dumbledore had always work for the great salutary , even though his methods were not always the skillful . He believed that Harry had to die to defeat Voldemort , as he was the final Horcrux . And so to cite Snape , he raised Harry like a " cop for slaughter " .

In fact , Dumbledore was so motivated to answer the greater good , that he often used people , placing them at the good place , without caring for their individual pauperism or aspirations . For example , he lie with just how much danger he was put Snape in , but that did n’t matter , as long as it helped in the overall plan to vanquish the Dark Lord .
