Regé - Jean Page speak withScreen Rantabout play a Paladin inDungeons & dragon : honour Among stealer . Page reveal that thecast play a game of Dungeons & Dragonsas their characters to find their dynamic before filming . He also partake in which magical item he would want in material life and the endless opening of the expansive Dungeons & Dragons world .
Regé-Jean Page on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Screen Rant : Fantastic occupation on this picture ! Your character has so much wisdom and such a sense of nobility . Can you talk about finding that dynamic with the rest of the cast , peculiarly as the neat man in their clowning ?
Regé - Jean Page : That was the most fun part of this journey , in terms of finding that dynamic with the form . First and foremost , it was incredibly easy because you have the privilege of work with an incredibly sharp , incredibly gifted , very originative cast . The mode that we did that initially was we play a big game of Dungeons & Dragons together before we shot the moving-picture show , which is a very natural thing for actors to do . We very easily slip one’s mind into that .
We dumbfound to assay out the characters in a game setting . It was hazardous . I ’ll tell apart you that much . It was chaotic . folk are very , very warm and improvisational on this hurl , and it ’s essentially an improv biz , and so everyone ’s play " Yes , and … " And so you think of the wildest , craziest matter you’re able to do , and then you have the privilege of having Chris Pine sit next to you , and he ’ll take that and black market with it and bumble it up and make it crazier . Michelle Rodriguez is on the other side , she blows it up , makes it even crazier than that .

And so you start finding the way that your active work together and all the unpredictable thing that happen on set . You got all the germ of that when we in reality just played together , which is what move ’s have in mind to be in the first plaza .
That ’s incredible ! You really captured the energy and theatrical role of a Paladin . Obviously , you did your research by playing D&D , but was your character operation from the research you did about Paladins or was that strictly from the script ?
Regé - Jean Page : It ’s always a mixture of everything . I reckon sometimes actor lean a little too heavily on how much research they ’ve done . They require to show you their workings to distract you what ’s on the screen . It ’s a little bit of everything . You do a lot of reading , you do a crowd of trying it out . That game really was a exclusive right to get to almost test drive what you remember you understood from the material and from the recitation . And then on top of that , it ’s the talent you ’re working with .

Our film director , John Daley and Jon Goldstein are howling folks , very , very passionate about this stuff . They ’re both players of the game , but they ’re also both picture show people . They pen Spider - Man Homecoming , they wrote Game Night . They know how to bring an audience into having a good time , which I think is always their first antecedence . It ’s finding the core in a movie , which I do n’t think any of us were needs expecting . I think we all picked up the script .
It was like , " Dungeons & Dragons . Oh God , what ’s this going to be ? " And then , oh , what it is , is a movie that ’s in reality really , really poignant and full of heart and a really honorable time to advert out with . And that ’s the magic rootage that I remember that they brought to it .
If you could have any one magical item from the film in real life , what would it be ?

Regé - Jean Page : The Hither Thither Staff , say that five times quickly , is a wad of fun to pay heed out with . I call back the creativity that we convey to what that detail can do in the movie is a lot of playfulness . So I mean I might go for that or an amulet that turns you invisible . I cerebrate you ’d get up to a wad of mischief with that .
Your grapheme ’s been around a recollective prison term . Would you like to further explore your fiber ’s history through a spinoff or anything else in theDungeons & Dragonsuniverse ?
Regé - Jean Page : I cerebrate the delight of the Dungeons & Dragons macrocosm is that there are no limit to it . It ’s uncounted . And so I think if there are any other level that multitude desire to tell apart within that , there are very few constraints to doing that .

What did you bring to your character that was n’t needfully on the Thomas Nelson Page ?
Regé - Jean Page : At this detail I ca n’t retrieve what was on the page and what was n’t . There was such a melding of those two worlds that they kind of became one . There ’s the blueprint that John and Jonathan have written for us , and then there ’s the originative process on set . So the page is very much where you start .
And then you start bestow pieces in and that form of bounces off what the other character are doing on exercise set , which again are the things that you never thought were quite potential . And it ’s like , " Oh , Michelle ’s doing that . Right , okay . That changes this . " So it ’s a very dynamic affair . So I do n’t really see a clean boundary pipeline between what was on the page and what came out of the improvisational sweat that we made on set .
