Screen Rant : awe-inspiring occupation on this film . Justice , Simon really contend with his insecurities , particularly with the legacy of his name . How did you approach your reference in a way that feel compelling with his excited electric discharge , but also ripe for drollery ?
Justice Smith : That is a expectant question . candidly , my original take on the case was base off of this person that I worked with who was really ego deprecatory and who would often make fun of themselves , so other mass would n’t make fun of them . And it was fishy at first and then it kind of got sad . And Simon , in the original swig of the script had more moments of that , of hit fun of himself , and there ’s even a line like , " Oh , I do it to protect myself " Or something , recollect that scene ?
Sophia Lillis : Yeah , that got cut out .
Justice Smith : Yeah . So that was my original approach , but that subtlety got cut out . But I still find like it ’s relatable to anybody to feel like you have such electric potential and that the only soul standing in your way is you .
Sophia , your character reference completely break up me up with these quick - witted and cutting remarks that are so straight . How did you approach the comedic element of your persona ?
Justice Smith : How did you draw close that , Sophia ?
Sophia Lillis : Me , comedic ? I was more of the square humankind of the entire group . Everyone else kind of did their own thing , and I was just also there . I cerebrate what humor I had in this role was very more musing on my sort of humor . Which is pretty dry , monotone , because my voice is naturally flat in general , which is why I can never do animation voiceover stuff because I feel like a lot of my humor is very more in the facial facial expression .
Justice Smith : Sophia is a lot like her character in the sense that she knows how to tailor somebody very recondite with a quick - witted remark , in a fun agency .
Sophia Lillis : Regé said the same matter .
Justice Smith : He did ?
Sophia Lillis : plain this morning , I get this affair , my mom talked to me , and she was like , " Oh , by the way , Regé said something about you in an audience last Nox where he ’s like , ' Sophia ’s really critical , whenever she criticizes you it cuts you profoundly or something . " I do n’t think what it was , how he said it . " But I was like , " I do n’t know what I said . "
Justice Smith : Not in a high-risk manner .
Sophia Lillis : What did I say to him ?
I jazz that . You guys are both the charming user out of the chemical group . Can you utter about shooting much versus CG ?
Justice Smith : It is so nerveless and a childhood dream do true to motion vaguely in a direction and for the great unwashed to actually oppose . I feel like , as a kid , you always sham that you have psychokinesis or great power or whatever . But you do n’t really have that , that ’s the thing . But on set , you have a bunch of 200 pound stunt cat going , " Whoa ! " And you feel very hefty as like a 142 pound man .
Sophia Lillis : Yeah , I love how you did the witching stuff and nonsense . It was based on sign speech .
Justice Smith : Sign language . Yes . I incorporate some sign voice communication into the gesture of the sign of the zodiac . So it ’s not on the button the words , but I would take some of the row that have to do with the action of the while and morph it in a way that would make it attend more spell castor - y.
