Babs Olusanmokun : Before we set off shooting the first time of year , Akiva had said to me [ that M’Benga ] used to be a valet de chambre of fierceness . Something along those line . And so I had wondered what could have brought that about , and I ’d gone towards this management of , yes , he was a human beings consumed by war at some point . And so that was already have layered into what he was in the first time of year . And then in the second season , we just unlayered some of that … there was just this journey of give-up the ghost deeply into the brain and the past of Dr. M’Benga and him find a way to really take the air out of the duskiness . But going back into the darkness , of course we did in Season 2 , and just exploring that and the depths of that and his reluctance to be involved , and how he had tried to get out and he keep being commit back in .

It ’s a real howling treat to walk in the shoe of this character , and I ’m certain my cast Ilex paraguariensis feel the same manner about their quality . The showrunners and the writers , I think they ’ve been honorable enough to spread the wealth , and I mean that ’s very crucial because there ’s eight of us , and it would really , really , really absorb to be standing on the sidelines throughout and get pitter - patter dialogue and whatnot . So to go through what I went through in time of year 1 and have what I went through in Season 2 , for me , is just a beautiful blessing .

Jess Bush : For me , the standout experience in that was discovering the depths of Chapel and M’Benga ’s connection and the genesis of that . It ’s a really unparalleled bond that they have . It ’s transmitted . There ’s something about it that ’s really non - verbal and very intimate . There ’s like a guardian slash mentor . And I cerebrate that intellect where that come from in such a holistic and bass way was so informative and substantial and has brought so much deepness to that for me . It was a very , very exceptional experience , that installment for me . Unforgettable .

Jess Bush shouted out the importance of theatre director Jeff Byrd , who helmedStrange New Worldsseason 2 , instalment 8 , " Under the Cloak of War . "

Nurse Chapel witness it , and she and M’Benga conspired to hold in the truth of Rah ’s death from Captain Christopher Pike ( Anson Mount ) . However , that ca n’t be the end of the story , and it ’s possibleStrange New Worldsseason 3will see Starfleet conduct an probe into the Ambassador ’s demise and discover the truth of what transpire between Dak’Rah , Chapel , and M’Benga .

Thelingering harm of the Klingon War was one of the most compelling aspect ofStrange New Worldsseason 2 . Along with Dr. M’Benga and Nurse Chapel , Lt . Erica Ortegas ( Melissa Navia ) and Lt . La’an Noonien - Singh ( Christina Chong ) are also Klingon War oldtimer who bear cicatrice from the barbarity of that conflict . While most of Captain Pike ’s USS Enterprise crew were spared fighting in the Klingon War , Star Trek : Strange New Worldsseason 3 could create a water parting between the Klingon war veterans and the non - combatant , specially if the the true about Dr. M’Benga killing Ambassador Dak’Rah is divulge .
