The Gallagher family seems to be constantly expanding , introduce more unique and compelling characters over time . The Gallaghers themselves are all thinking in their own ways , which makes them a little hard to compare on a sliding scale .
Some of the characters are street smart while others are book impertinent . There are also some who are emotionally intelligent or only knowing through life history experience . There ’s also the matter of age - role like Liam are hard to try because so much of their screentime is spend doing very little . On the other hand , some of the older characters can be a bit naive .
Kevin Ball
Kevin is n’t the smartest of the bunch , and he do it it . He is n’t very literate - in fact , early in the show , he take to not being able-bodied to read or write very well - and jumble his facts on a even basis .
However , just because he is n’t as academically sassy does n’t think he is n’t intelligent in other areas . He does seem to lie with a little bit about business and does own a successful legal community . He has also cope to get the Gallaghers and his own family out of a few gummy state of affairs too .
Mickey Milkovich
For all of his stamina , Mickey allows himself to be bossed around by others more often than it seems . He starts out as almost a lowlife , someone who enjoys cause trouble around town .
Over prison term , he mature and allow his feelings to show . Still , he hurts Ian profoundly for a retentive fourth dimension and allows himself to bear the price . He’sforced into an undesirable marriageand subsist under the iron fist of his father while Ian is living his own lifespan . As to book smarts , Mickey seems not to care too much about schooling .
Jimmy Lishman

Carl Gallagher
Carl makes some confutable choices throughout the show , but somehowhe seems to know what he ’s doing . He ’s always had a plan for what he wants to do , and he methodically exploit his mode towards his goals .
However , Carl can be a bit naive . For starters , he believe anything that Frank tells him , which may be partly due to his age . He also has no rough-cut mother wit whatsoever , going so far as to essay murder to solve issues with other , obvious root .
Frank Gallagher
Frank may be a walk encyclopedia , which sound strange given his personality , but his emotional intelligence is unbelievably humbled . Most of the clip , he has very little retainer for other mass , even his own family .
He also wittingly damages his health repeatedly , almost to the tip that he gets himself hospitalized on numerous social function . This indicates a total lack of circumspection and foresight , so he ca n’t be considered levelheaded .
Ian Gallagher
Ian recognise precisely what he wants in life , which is an admirable quality , but it ’s almost set off out by his rashness . Like Lip , he ’s also a bit ego - sabotaging , especially in the former seasons of the show .
He puts himself through a draw of bother bypursuing Mickey , who repeatedly shuts Ian outfor class . However , one could fence that it ’s worth it in the end .
Debbie Gallagher
Debbie deepen a circle throughout the show , but at her center , she remains largely the same . From the beginning , it was light that she was a form , caring , and empathetic person but would often draw a blank to show it sometimes .
After spending so long worrying about everyone else , she set up herself first . Even though she makes mistakes in her kinship , she still does well in school and is very street impudent , like most of the Gallaghers .
Lip Gallagher
Lip is incredibly knowledgeableand book smart , but he makes a lot of error , often wittingly . For the first few seasons especially , Lip invariably weaken his own forward motion . He drops out of school , refuses to take care college , and purposefully generate himself in difficulty .
However , he has the brains and knows more than most of the other characters in the show . He ’s also street sassy and can take maintenance of himself , but that does n’t mean that he does n’t also take care of his folk .
Fiona Gallagher
Fiona is ambitious despite the hand that she ’s been treat in lifetime . She does n’t make any dumb decisions on a whim like some of her sib do . Take the minute where she decides to take hands of her sibling for example . She comes to this conclusion after taking the time to think it through , process what it think of for her , and whether it ’s deserving the sacrifice .
Even after shoulder the extra responsibility , Fiona finds ways to pursue her passions in the manpower and make the most of her opportunities . She ’s very personable and senses when her sib are going through something . She puts others above herself , even after everything she ’s been through . Of course , she does make fault sometimes , for the most part due to her neglect .
Veronica Fisher
Interestingly , the most intelligent character on the show is n’t a Gallagher . Or perhaps it ’s on the nose because she is n’t a Gallagher that Fiona ’s best friend Veronica is able to think so clearly . Veronica always puts her foot down with Kevin and Fiona , cause sure her representative and her opinions are heard before she rushes to anyone else ’s care .
Veronica knows how to make a keep in the billet she ’s in , and she also knows how to stay safe and responsible . She ’s always willing to help oneself out her friends , as long as it does n’t spite her own fellowship . She ’s also the one ordinarily fall in advice to other case .
