The Fabulous Four
Summary
The Fabulous Four ( 2024)is a very straightforward movie , though it does n’t get to the root of its problem until the end is upon us , and we ’re lulled into the safety of a pollyannaish happy ending . The film contends with a forced friendship that fell apart because of a man and a lack of communication over hurt feelings . While I immediately wanted to suspire in frustration because of the cause , Ann Marie Allison and Jenna Milly ’s script , while whacky , does n’t treat it lightly . With a secret plan and , dare I say , fabulous cast of characters , the film ’s at least more than its basic premise .
The Fabulous Four’s Star-Studded Cast Shines
Its main story is also relatable
After 48 year of not speaking to Marilyn ( Bette Midler ) , Lou ( Susan Sarandon ) is dragged to Key West by best friends Kitty ( Sheryl Lee Ralph ) and Alice ( Megan Mullally ) . Lou is convinced she ’s pull ahead one of Ernest Hemingway ’s cats , but she ’s actually there to attend Marilyn ’s wedding party . Lou is displeased by the trickery to get her to address to her former good friend , and the two endeavor to reconnect while poking at old wounds . Director Jocelyn Moorhouse keep the film ’s lighthearted tone , but unlikea picture show likeBook Club , The Fabulous Fouris more ground in its judgment of friendship .
It would ’ve been easygoing for a pic like this one to phone in the story . But it in reality commingle some of its ridiculous elements with its more earnest ones quite well . Much of the level beat and disclose I saw coming from a Swedish mile away , but damn it if it was n’t at least engaging and fun to observe . Thanks to the cast ’s interpersonal chemistry — and what a ball of fire cast it is — and the clear enjoyment they had while filming , I became invested in their character and wanted Lou and Marilyn to piece up their friendly relationship as soon as potential .
The Fabulous Fourisn’t so straightaway to blank out Lou ’s hurting , even if Marilyn wants to totally ignore it and trust she did nothing unseasonable ( and she ’s hollo out about that , too ) . In fact , the legal age of the film is focalise on it , specially as it makes Lou feel like she does n’t belong to there , which is a running root throughout . A supporter ’s betrayal is n’t something that can be glossed over without closure , and Moorhouse ’s film translate that . When the two finally face each other , in a helter-skelter last act , the unassumingness behind their word annulus rightful rather than empty .

The Fabulous Four Has Too Many Subplots
It could’ve also been funnier
While the clowning ’s central story has some heft and balances levity and striking tension , the film ’s subplots are half - baked . Kitty ’s religious girl further her to look into assisted living , which annoys Kitty , a successful marijuana farmer . There ’s also the storyline involving Kitty ’s grandson and tensions with his female parent . These are interesting subplots on their own , but the filmunderwrites them . Aspects of the story are unnecessary count how little they affect the A - plot , and the lack of attending they invite leaves their resolutions sternly miss . Ralph does a fantastic job with the material , but I require more from her story .
Mullaly is fun as Alice , but she gets the least to do . Smoking weed and kip with younger world seems to be her entire personality . It ’s only fun for a while . The Fabulous Fouralso postulate an extra injection of wittiness . I ’ll admit I express mirth a few time at the woman ’s shenanigan and overall interactions , but with such a star - stud mold , the motion picture was underwhelming on the funniness front . There ’s certainly a lot of charm , and it ’s a freehanded part of what kept me watching .
There ’s a sense of absurdness wrapped in realness , too , which anchors the film . When the truth is out in the outdoors , it builds on all that came before . I only wish well it ’d come a bit earlier , so there was more metre spent on healing . But it ’s a fun , zippy motion-picture show about friends reuniting despite the past , and on that note it succeeds . It ’s not too flashy , nor does it set about to be anything but what it is . And while sure storylines could ’ve been more fleshed out , Sarandon and the residuum of the cast replete the flick with nub and joy .

The Fabulous Fouris now dally in theaters . The film is 99 minutes long and rated roentgen for some sexual stuff , druge use and linguistic process .
The Fabulous Fouris an uproarious funniness about a group of life history - long friends who jaunt to Key West , Florida , to be bridesmaid in the surprise wedding party of their best college lady friend Marilyn . Over the course of one outrageous slip , sistership are rekindled , the past resurfaces , and there are enough sparks , raunch , and romance to change all their liveliness in unexpected ways .
