Summary
The Bikeriders ' equivocal ending pose some lucidity from film director Jeff Nichols and Jodie Comer ( Kathy ) . Nichols has been taking the chance to offer some clarity , but he is still somewhat happy about the muddiness . In an audience withEntertainment Weekly , Nichols and Comer spoke out about Benny ’s future with Kathy and where their relationship will go . NICHOLS:[Do they bond together ? ] plausibly not . The verity is , that ’s why I like the conclusion . He ’s smiling . She ’s smile . I do n’t call up she consider everything she ’s saying at the end of the picture . And he ’s by all odds hearing that call of those motorcycles . The verity is you do n’t know , and I ’m good with that , but I call back they know , and probably we know as an audiencethat is tenuous land that they ’re standing on . The motion-picture show very much leave it open to rendering , and if people desire to walk out of the theater and think , ' Oh , she make Austin Butler and now they get to subsist happily after , ' if that ’s what they need in their life , then that ’s what they can have .
COMER : Something that really stuck with me when I watched the film the other night at the L.A. premiere was this line where she says , ' You advert out with these guys enough , it changes you . You bulge acting like them . ' And you know what ? That really stuck with me because I thought , ' Oh wow , I wonder where she went ? ' Because I think that ’s true . There was so much force and dislocation and brokenheartedness and crying , that felt like a very reliable moment for her . So , I ’m curious to fuck where that led .
NICHOLS : Kathy and Benny had a son , and he showed up to the box office when we were go to premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival and gave us a alphabetic character . We gave that to Danny Lyon and he ’s gone to interview him . So the story is unfold and it ’s going to be passably fascinating , I call back , to see who does come out of the woodwork .
The Bikeriders' Ending Is Completely Ambiguous
Kathy And Benny May Not Last
Throughout the movie , Benny is a deep serious character . He is often little more than an ever - scowling physical body , reluctantly clinging to his club , and look for a course forward . It is only after settling down with KathyduringThe Bikeriders ' endingthat Benny finally grin . alas , while Kathy is smiling about their future tense , Benny is only smile at the sound of rev up motorcycles . It ’s a sign that they are not on the same pageboy at all , which could have horrific implications for the future of their relationship .
Their stark motivations undoubtedly are part of the reason that Nichols believe that the two could never experience the ease of their lives together . Another is thatthe real Kathy and Bennymay not have had their felicitous termination . The real - human race Kathy died sometime beforethe movie ’s sack , and Benny is still alive and working as a mechanic . Although Benny always lived a more dangerous life story , he outlived Kathy . They did expend many years live on togetherin Florida , however , which contradict the idea that the movie proves their inconsistency .
